Special Pho Information

Tucked along 34th Street in St. Petersburg, Special Pho at 1390 34th St N has the kind of laid-back, no-frills vibe that usually signals you’re about to get something genuinely good. Walking in, the space feels casual and welcoming, with simple decor and the comforting aroma of simmering broth filling the air. It’s the kind of place where regulars seem to know exactly what they want before they even sit down, and after one visit, it’s easy to see why.

The menu leans heavily into Vietnamese comfort food, with pho as the clear star. Their signature bowls arrive steaming hot, layered with fresh herbs, tender slices of beef, and rice noodles that have just the right bite. The broth is where this spot really shines-rich, aromatic, and slow-cooked to a depth that tastes like hours of care. It’s not overly salty or greasy, which makes it easy to keep going back for spoonful after spoonful. On one visit, the brisket pho stood out with its melt-in-your-mouth texture, while the rare steak option cooked perfectly in the hot broth right at the table.

Beyond pho, the menu offers a solid variety of Vietnamese staples. The spring rolls are fresh and tightly wrapped, paired with a peanut dipping sauce that hits that perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet. Vermicelli bowls and banh mi sandwiches round things out nicely, making it a good option whether you’re in the mood for something light or more filling. Portion sizes are generous without feeling excessive, which adds to the overall value.

Service here is friendly and efficient, even during busier hours. Staff members are quick to check in without hovering, and they’re happy to offer recommendations if you’re unfamiliar with the menu. Based on what many online reviews echo, consistency seems to be one of the restaurant’s strengths-regulars often mention that the quality holds steady over time, which is always reassuring.

The location itself is convenient, especially for locals in St. Petersburg looking for a reliable spot for a casual lunch or dinner. Parking is straightforward, and the relaxed setting makes it easy to drop in without much planning. While it may not have the polished ambiance of upscale dining spots, it makes up for it with authenticity and flavor.

What People's Say About Place

From the moment we walked in, we knew this place was special, it was packed, which is always a great sign. Despite being busy, the service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The flavors were incredible, rich, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. The hot tea was such a nice touch, especially served as loose-leaf tea instead of a bag. A small detail, but it made the experience feel elevated. I ordered my go-to favorite, the chicken pho, and it did not disappoint. Comforting, flavorful, and perfectly done. My husband chose the veggie pho with extra vegetables, and they absolutely delivered,no skimping here. The bowl was generous and loaded with fresh veggies. Great food, great service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back.

Special Pho is such a great spot for authentic Vietnamese food. The pho is rich, flavorful, and tastes like it’s been simmered for hours. The noodles were fresh, the meat was tender, and the portions were very generous. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly, even though it was busy. You can really tell they care about quality and consistency.

My over all experience here was 1000/10. The servers were very social and happy to answer questions about menu. This location is really clean, maintained and delicious. The price is so reasonable for what you get. Fast service and they are on it when it comes to refills. No need to constantly wait and question when someone is going to come attend you. I ordered a BYOB and then ordered special pho. Let me tell you, the limeade, delicious. Fortunately we were so full, we had no room for dessert. But they do have flan and waffle+ Much more. I have no complains and plan on coming back. This location has gained a new customer! There bathrooms were also really clean.

I definitely recommend special pho if you’re in Saint Pete wanting something yummy, especially in the fall or winter weather we ordered P1 which is the all meat pho pair if with the chili oil and it’s chef kiss We also got the pork chop rice platter. Super delicious.! a good portion for one or if you wanna share the phone you can do 50-50. Overall, really good. We also even got a mango passion Boba. I fully recommend.

Food was ok, so was service. Above average Viet food. Nothing outstanding, nothing disappointing. Spring roll was great! Pho broth could have had more flavors. Thank you.

1st time at this restaurant on a chilly Florida day! I moved here from MD and miss my beloved pho restaurant there. Special Pho did not disappoint! It is clean and staff were very friendly. The egg rolls and (especially) the chicken pho with veggies were awesome! I will recommend and return!

Easily my favorite Pho in St. Pete! My husband and I come here about once a week and I get the same thing every time - the vegan pho with house noodles. The veggies are so fresh and the broth is light and soothing. He usually gets the house pho ‘P1’ with house noodles and loves it. Our server is usually a gentleman named Bang who is always so friendly, welcoming and remembers our orders. We always feel well fed and taken care of here!

What is not to like?! I got the special pho. The pho was delicious, they had sriracha and hoisin in the table to get it to the exact flavor you’d like. The basil and mint were fresh and delicious. I forgot to take photos because I was busy eating. If you want a solid bowl of pho and none of the pretentiousness - this is your spot.
